A Message from our President
Spring is such a lovely time – I am writing this looking out on to our garden which is overflowing with pink and white blossom, while the trees have a newly-acquired shimmer of pale green to replace their winter drabness.
But this year is different. Coronavirus has robbed us of our freedom to meet friends and families, we are restricted to our homes and gardens, if we are lucky enough to have one. Our society’s events have sadly been temporarily cancelled, such a shame in what was to have been our celebratory 40th year. We are all keeping fingers crossed that we too will not fall prey to this disease.
But we’re hardy folk, we’ll pull through. As gardeners, we can be thankful that when we plant our peas and beans and our flower seeds, we are not only looking forward to wonderful home-grown vegetables and flowers, we are looking forward to the future when things will be better.
I am sure that our society can weather this temporary setback, and perhaps if we can share our expertise and the beauty of our gardens with our friends and families using modern technology (which isn’t that difficult to master, even for us oldies) we will hopefully be able to spread our love of growing plants to future generations and keep DDHS going for at least another 40 years.
Keep safe and keep well.
